FAQ

How Long Will The Transfer Take?

All .com .net and .org transfers will be fully completed within 2-3 working days, normally upon receipt of full payment unless otherwise agreed. Your exact payment and transfer requirements will be discussed on agreement of sale and met as fully as possible.

The .co.uk transfers normally take 10 to 14 days to process in total and require both parties to complete a transfer form from the UK registration authority Nominet. Nominet also require a transfer charge of £30.00 GBP plus VAT which will be payable by the buyer. The transfer can take longer than the time stated above and depends to a large extent on how quickly the buyer completes and sends off the transfer form once they have received it from us. Arrangements can be made however for use of the domain to start as soon as the sale is agreed and before the ownership transfer is complete, allowing the domain to be in use by the buyer almost immediately. Your exact payment and transfer requirements will be discussed on agreement of sale and accommodated as fully as possible.

What Payment Methods Do You Accept?

We accept payment by many different methods. It is possible to pay by credit card, cheque, internet cheque or wire transfer. If you are in a hurry for your domain we recommend you pay by credit card or fund transfer as other methods may delay the transfer process.

What Details are Required for the Actual Transfer to be Effected?

In order to complete the domain transfer we need the full name and address details of the new registrant for the transfer form and domain name records. Also required is a phone number and fax number if available, and an email address to act as an administrative contact. For .co.uk transfers we will also need an appropriate postal address where we can send the transfer documentation to be completed and signed.

Why Does your Information Request Form Require So Many Details?

In the past hoax offers and timewasters have presented our business with a significant problem, this is understandable when you consider our Domain Name Pages collectively receive many thousands of visits on a daily basis, which in turn have often generated 100's of enquiries. This is why we require much of the information we do in the information request form. It helps allow us to check that a request is genuine and satisfies our requirements before taking the time to carefully look into it and provide further details relating to a domain name's sale. Other details are also useful in order to ensure you are provided with the most relevant information for your requirements and to make sure we can answer as best as possible any questions you may have and provide the best possible advice. For these reasons we ask that you please complete this form as fully and accurately as possible, it will probably take little more than a minute and will be very helpful for us which in turn will allow us to be more helpful to you and will save your time in the long run.

What are the Important Terms and Conditions?

Firstly the information provided on the domain information request form must be valid and accurate. This will form the basis of the domain transfer agreement. The domains future purpose must also be stated along with the applicants role such as company, private indivdual, company's representative, domain name agent etc.

The new registrant must be declared at the start of the process on the domain information request form, unless there has been prior agreement we will not change who the transfer will be made to. The terms and conditions also state the domain name can not change ownership for 6 months from date of transfer unless otherwise agreed.

How Do I Request The Price Of A Domain Or Make An Offer?

There are a number of options on how to make an enquiry abou a particular domain name. You can go to the IMO website home page here, type the domain name in the the box provided on this page and submit it to take you to the enquiry page for that domain name, for most domains you can also type the domain name directly into your browser using the format www.domain-name.co.uk and you will be forwarded to the relevant domain names web page, from where you can click on the 'available to buy' button which takes you to a form you can use to either request a price or place an offer.

Is There Somewhere I Can Get A Domain Name I Am Interested In Independently Valued?

There are a number of independent companies who specialise in the valuation of domain names (more commonly called appraisals). One company that we recommend which has a high reputation for impartial advice and realistic accurate pricing is Sedo. The cost of an appraisal with Sedo starts from 19 Euros for the basic appraisal and 39 Euros for a more comprehensive 'Professional appraisal', other companies generally charge similar prices.

Can IMO Sell My Domain Names For Me?

Yes and No, we do not currently have an open service available and only sell domain names owned by us from this site - however we do have plans to introduce such a service for domain registration and hosting customers in the future. On occasions for selected names we may take on a brokering role for a commission to help secure the sale of a Premium Domain name. If you would like further advice on the sales and marketing of a domain name and the domain is anticipated to be of value please contact us with details and we will be happy to assist you. We also regularly buy domain names ourselves, so if it is a good name we may very well be interested in discussing buying it from you, so please let us know.

When Will More Domains Be Added To The Site?

We are buying and selling domains constantly so please check back soon for a new selection.

What Is The Best Domain For My Needs?

There are a number of things to look at here. First of all the domain extension. .com is generally regarded as the best for general use especially internationally . In the UK however it's the .co.uk extension that is foremost..Net although initially intended for use by Internet service provider companies is now much more widespread and is the second most popular domain extension for commercial use. .Org although having probably the least status of 'the big three' international extensions is the preferred choice of organisations for whom it was initially created, as well as now being widely accepted for commercial applications also.

The domain name may be a brand for an online company in which case it should be relatively punchy short and memorable and be related to and create a good image for the products or services it offers. Names should be simple and are best if they avoid possible confusions with similar sounding names or potential spelling problems. For this reason hyphens too detract from the name. If the name will require any kind of explanation it is generally a bad sign.

In general domain names that have less characters and less words are best, as they tend to be more likely to possess the positive qualities mentioned above. If you are looking for an online identity for an exisiting company it is probably best to use a generic term for the product or service it offers such as glass for a glassmakers etc. A name related to your existing trading name is also a good option especially if it is well known or respected.
